Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire. – W.B. Yeats

      Ms. Rachel Jayan Philip

At ITARI, learning extends beyond pedagogy into purpose. Recently, Ms. Nagasuhasini, Principal of Indus International Community School, and Ms. Khushbu, ITARI Alumni, engaged our PGDEI Teacher Learners in a thought-provoking dialogue on why education must serve a higher purpose. By creating deliberate dissonance, they challenged our learners to question traditional notions of teaching, and to reimagine schools as spaces where community engagement becomes a lived reality.

In the session, teacher learners explored how education can transcend academics to nurture empathy, equity, and collective well-being. The discussion revealed that engaging with communities not only enriches classroom practice but also anchors education in real-world relevance. Ms. Nagasuhasini emphasized that schools must act as bridges between learners and society, cultivating a mindset of responsibility and service. Meanwhile, Ms. Khushbu, drawing from her ITARI journey, highlighted how sustained community interaction helps teachers grow in resilience and emotional intelligence.

The session reminded us that teaching is not merely a profession, but a calling to shape compassionate change-makers. By embracing dissonance, our learners are being prepared to carry forward education as a higher purpose—one that uplifts both individuals and the communities they serve.
