Since its inception in 2009, ITARI has developed a credible and mutually beneficial association with the Cambridge, UK and has registered teachers on the CIDTL from several reputed IB/IGCSE schools in Bangalore, including The International School Bangalore (TISB), Canadian International, Stonehill International, Vibgyor High, Inventure Academy, Oakridge, Greenwood High, Candor International, Indus International School, Ryan International, Kidzee, etc. Various reputed CBSE and ICSE schools; including DPS, NPS, NAFL, Bethany High, Ryan International, Chrysalis, Primus, etc also send their teachers to ITARI for training on this programme. ITARI runs two to three batches of the CIDTL course every year at Indus International School, Sarjapur, Bangalore. All our trainees have been employed by leading International Schools after qualifying the course. This career enhancement programme can also be offered in-situ in any School on request if there are appx 12-15 teachers in a single batch. Moreover, the course can also be offered online to Teachers outstations in other cities. On an average appx 120 teachers register for the Cambridge Diploma annually at ITARI. The course fee is Rs. 85,000/- and course duration is one and a half year, the course is offered as a part-time programme with 20 Saturday theory workshops, compulsory practice-teaching (min 6 h per week for the entire duration of the course), with three reflective written assignment submissions, pertinent to modules prescribed by Cambridge, UK. Few seats are also available for freshers or professionals (working in other fields) with practice teaching organized at different schools.

We are happy to announce that admissions for the NEW Cambridge International Diploma in Teaching and Learning (CIDTL, UK) at Indus Training and Research Institute (ITARI) commencing September 2017, are now open. The Diploma is offered at Postgraduate level and intended for full-time or part-time practising teachers in educational establishments, training organisations, and companies.

The new course will be delivered at Indus International School, Sarjapur, Bangalore.

ABOUT THE NEW CIDTL PROGRAMME

Purpose of the Diploma in Teaching and Learning: The Diploma is designed to help teachers develop their professional thinking and practice, and enhance the quality of teaching and learning.

Aim: In the Diploma, teachers will have the opportunity to understand the principles of learning and teaching and relate these critically to their own practice. They will critically engage with educational theory and research evidence to inform and develop their professional thinking. Teachers in the programme will design coherent lessons and programmes that focus on planning for active learning and teaching, and use a variety of approaches to teaching and learning appropriately to help learners learn more effectively. They will be able to develop their personal 'reflective practice' skills enriched by ideas and experience from external sources and learn collaboratively, supporting and supported by their colleagues. It is offered by the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), UK and is a professional teacher certification recognized in 140 countries.


Approach: The CIDTL, a dynamic teacher-development course, is designed to incorporate international best practices in Education. The Diploma syllabus and assignments provide a framework which includes a range of teaching and learning methods making intensive use of technology. The focus is on the development of knowledge, skills and understanding in the key aspects of teaching and learning. It also helps teachers explore and apply new ideas in their own context, integrate new approaches in their own practice, and demonstrate their professional development as reflective practitioners. Teachers can work towards the Diploma at their own pace. This will depend on their priorities and circumstances. Certification provides an international quality mark, enhancing their professional profile, and will help open pathways for their further professional and career development.


Curriculum and Course plan: The Diploma is designed so that candidates can demonstrate their professional thinking and practice as clearly and efficiently as possible. The evidence required matches the learning outcomes. In their portfolio, candidates provide evidence of their:

  • Practice − actual teaching practice
  • Learning − newly-acquired knowledge, skills and understanding
  • Reflection − skills in analysing, synthesising and evaluating their experiences to develop their future professional practice

All modules are marked on the basis of its creativity, authenticity and reflective thinking by examiners from the CIE, UK.

At ITARI, we offer two additional modules to the three modules of the CIDTL. The additional two modules have been developed keeping in mind the needs of the teacher in India, and aim to develop a deeper appreciation of the fundamentals of education and broaden their perspective and world view.

Assessment: is through a portfolio of evidence, examined by Cambridge. In their portfolio, teachers demonstrate their knowledge, skills and understanding in the context of their own work, from a variety of sources:

  • classroom observations
  • materials that arise naturally out of the teaching process
  • feedback from colleagues, learners and others
  • the teacher’s own reflections on their practice.


Programme Highlights at ITARI:

  • Face-to-face sessions: The five modules are covered through 120 hours of classroom based sessions.
  • One-to-one Mentoring: Expert mentoring support during and after the completion of the course.
  • Support materials: All candidates receive the required study and support materials for the course. The candidates will have access to the ITARI library for reference work.


Eligibility: Graduate degree from a recognized University. The Diploma is intended for full-time or part-time practising teachers in educational establishments, training organisations and companies.


Course Duration: 1.5 years part-time (Three Phases including 20 Saturday workshops, practice teaching and three reflective research assignments)


Course Fee: Rs. 80,000/- (payable in one or two installments) + Rs. 5,000/- (additional as service tax)
